And since I don't really do much of that, I figured it was just time to make a new blog. (Hey, we all do that...it's normal) then please feel free to peruse through my old, freshman year of college posts.

Love you all! Then one morning I woke up one morning with my all crusty and went to the eye doctor. BAM! Allergic to my brand of contacts! No Acuvue Oasys for me! So back to the Dailys it goes. Bumma.

4) I currently have a sty in my eye. DUMB. No make up, hot compresses 4 times a day, and eye massages for the next week or until it goes away.

3) I went to the gynecologist. Before you skip ahead with your hands over your eyes, it's not about that. During my breast exam the doctor felt a nice sized lump. Plus I have a history of breast cancer in my family, so I was a "high risk" case. SCARY. One ultrasound, a cupcake, and lots of stress relieving running later, it turns out I have fibroadenoma. Totally benign, but every six months for the rest of my life I have to have an ultrasound of my boobies to make sure that the cysts aren't growing (which would mean they were cancerous). A little bit of a pain, but I'll take it over cancer any day!

2) I went to the Ke$ha concert! IT WAS AWESOME. (I got there though and wondered whether I was still in Utah...grinding boy on boy, girl on girl, quite a few very glazed eyes, and a girl peeing herself in line for the bathroom. She was gone.) Despite these slightly funny and at the time completely shocking occurrences, I dressed like a leopard, wore three pairs of fake lashes, and danced until I thought my legs were going to fall off. AWESOME. Pictures? I think yes. And my favorite Ke$ha songs from the concert? Of course we does.

1) Here it is! Number one is Valentine's Day :) I wasn't really expecting anything, maybe a letter or a card at the most- but David sent me a bouquet of the most beautiful roses. I felt so loved and special! It was definitely the biggest highlight of the past few weeks. Here's a picture.

So that would be my life :) At least all the important shtuff! Oh, apart from this. I've been quite obsessed with this song lately.

That is all.

Running Music!

I always like knowing what kind of music people run to. I think it says a lot about a person! So, I decided to create a little list of the songs I've been listening to lately while I run- enjoy :)

1) Rinzler- Daft Punk

Basically the entire Tron: Legacy soundtrack is AMAZING!! I don't see myself getting tired of it anytime soon. This song is my favorite...for now.

2) Kids- Sleigh Bells. The beat in this song is niiiice. Good for pacing, fantastic to just jam to!

3) Ride- The Vines. I have to refrain from stopping in the middle of my run and head banging :)

4) Like a G6- Far East Movement. I first heard this song in a club in Provo, go figure! Not usually the place I go to for good music.

5) Hold It Against Me- Britney Spears. This song really only works if you have headphones that have crazy awesome bass. Otherwise it's a little boring.

6) End of Line- Daft Punk. I suppose I really switch off favorites between this song and Rinzler.

7) Black and Yellow- Wiz Khalifa. It's so hard to find good rap these days. This is decent. (Isn't he so skinny??)

8) Me & U- Cassie. Again with the bass headphones, but if you have them this is a good song to find a good pace and stick with it. Just a nice steady beat.

9) The Game Has Changed- Daft Punk. Fine, three way favorite with Rinzler and End of Line.

10) Bat Country- Avenged Sevenfold. Oh. My. Gosh. This song is just so BAMF to run to! And the guitar solo is just huuggghhh awesome.

If you discover any awesome running songs- please let me know! I'm always on the hunt for more music :)

For all you ladies out there...

As a college age young woman I am frequently told what to do in order to keep myself safe. It's a dangerous world out there, and even in Provo, UT there are some psychos. Probably a couple more than usual because it's Provo, UT. I'd like to think I'm pretty safe- I never go running in the dark, morning or night. Whenever I come home from campus after dark some one is almost always with me. My roommates always know where I am or who I'm planning to be with if they need to get a hold of me. Sometimes though, you need to brush up on your self defense. I found this Youtube video very helpful, and I hope you will too.

Beware of the muggers, and always make sure to get wrist control :)

And Heavenly Father said: "Let me show you something..."

So I had one of those days today. You know those days where you're just tired, and much more susceptible to feeling inadequate and hard done to. I came from class and was just exhausted, so I grumpily sat down on the couch, watched some TV, and devoured the kitchen for dinner because it's just that time of the month.

Then I did a little homework to make myself feel remotely responsible and began pfaffing on the computer until it was late enough for me to go to bed because I'm just soooo tired. I came across this video as I was surfing news articles.

The article began "One year after a devastating earthquake hit Haiti, women and girls staying in the country's refugee camps live without adequate food, water, shelter and medical care. And when the darkness falls, the rapists come." (Jade Walker) Doesn't that sound like some kind of nightmare? And for these women it's a nightly occurrence.

WHOA. I suddenly felt very selfish and spoiled. Here I am at one of the greatest colleges in the nation, with a roof over my head, wonderful friends, and I can go to sleep every night feeling safe and warm. My biggest concern is passing my classes and not getting fat. I have it so good! And I am so richly blessed! My heart goes out to these women, who struggle everyday to live and fight for their lives every night.

What on earth do I have to complain about?

First Day of Winter Semester 2011

So I got up and went running. It was extremely frustrating because some college students are super lazy and don't shovel the walk in front of their houses so the snow packs down, becomes really bumpy and slippery so that I can't run on it without falling over. So I'd run for about 5 seconds then have to walk across the ice, then run a little bit more and walk across some ice. VERY frustrating! I suppose I'm either going to have to run loops around Liberty Square or just stick to the treadmill (blech). We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Classes were AWESOME though!! My D&C teacher is a complete NUT which is fantastic because I like teachers that are nuts, my German teacher is also slightly crazy but pretty cute which also helps me pay attention, and then in my German and Scandinavian Cinema class we watch movies and then write about them. Awesome. Today we watched Babette's Feast which was very interesting! I highly suggest you watch it.

A note about my German class though...as I was sitting in class it struck me on how very germanthe teacher and book were. I know that those of you who are reading this are like "duh Emily", but the German culture is very no nonsense, here's how it is, sink or swim. My teacher was the same way. He was goofy and fun, but also very assured of his correctness and had a kind of...edge...to him. I don't know. Maybe you'd just have to be me to get it. My book also is very simple and straight forward. It looks like they typed everything up on word, bound it and slapped a cover on it. There are no pictures, no fun little stories, it's no nonsense you will learn German whether you like it or not. I'm okay with this because I know the language and understood everything my teacher said and am confident I will do well, but I feel like for a new student it would be VERY intimidating! Then again that's also the goal of German, Germany, and Germans in general I feel like. They're rough and intimidating, but once you're in, you're in fo LIFE. They're coconuts, while Americans are peaches. (hehe peaches :))

Speaking of peaches I missed David a lot today. I just wanted to tell him everything about my day and hold hands with him on the way to my classes and make everyone on campus sick with how completely in love with each other we are. But that will have to wait I suppose.

Then I made LaReesa's Chicken Noodle Soup for dinner. And it was good.

And that's about it! Oh, on another note I looked down at my hands today and they're already dry. I've been in Utah just over 24 hours and they're already dry. *sigh* It did remind me of this lol though...

hahaha!! It's the New Year, So I'm gonna start blogging again :)

Happy New Year Everyone!

As part of the New Year I've decided to start my blog again! It's been a while since I've written, but I'm excited to restart :)

I head back to BYU in the morning for Winter Semester, and I should be sleeping because I'm supposed to get up in a couple hours. Oh well. I'll just sleep on the plane and everyone can thing I'm on crack because my eyes are bloodshot.

What keeps me up at night you may ask? Well lots of things, but especially tonight I've been thinking a lot about my family. They're just awesome. Here's a picture.

Toldja they were awesome. Since I've been home the past couple weeks it's reminded me what an AMAZING job we did pickin each other in the pre-existance. Let me explain WHY on a member by member basis:

DAD: I think of him and I get an image of a surfer dude on the beach, only this surfer dude happens to have the logic of something incredibly logical. My Dad is so laid back and chill, and he gives the most solid advice ever. Not to mention he works INCREDIBLY hard- he pays for everything for me! EVERYTHING. Everything I have I owe to him. Sometimes I tear up a little bit because he just gives and gives and I'm just so spoiled but he loves me anyway. He sold his MG so I could go to college, and every two weeks like clock work I have some money in my bank account. I am SO blessed, and I am so grateful for my Dad :) He also does 100+ mile bike rides. Can your Dad do that? Nope, didn't think so. He's the bomb, and I love him a lot!

MOM: We're basically the same person, only she's got 3 kids and is older than me. We're two peas in a pod, we chat during the lesson in Relief Society and have to be shushed by Jeanie Westbrook and then we giggle about it. I secretly think all my friends are friends with me only because my Mom is so awesome...which makes total sense. I'm perfectly okay with that! My Mom is smart, funny, beautiful, and is a BAMF at running. She runs marathons as her "long run" during the week. My long run? 3.1 miles baby. She inspires me everyday. A lot of girls I meet are really afraid of turning into their Mothers. Their Moms are obviously not a cool as my Mom, because if I become anything like my Mother in the future I will consider my life a raving success.

BEN: Is probably one of the funniest people I know. Everytime I'm around him I laugh! He's the life of the party even when he's just chillin on the couch. Not to mention all the girls are crazy about him, and who wouldn't be? He's smart, has delicious hair, great style, and is a friggin prodigy at the guitar. He listens to stuff, goes, "i like that", and then two seconds later he's playing it. What a Man. This kid is going places, I just hope he gives me a backstage pass to one of his stadium sold out hipster shows when he's rich and famous. PLUS, let us not fail to mention, he tolerates me. I mean I tease him relentlessly and poke and prod him and he just accepts it. With the occasional "Emmmiiilllyyyyy!". I love him, and I can't wait to get closer to him as he gets older and richer. (Just kidding about the richer part)

ANDREW: He's 5. And it concerns me how well we get along. (For those of you who need a reference I'm 20) He's SO cute. As in SOOOOOO cute! Everytime I see him I just gotta tickle him and love him and it's usually followed by "Emily stopppp..." which I do for all of about 5 seconds before I'm cuddling him again. He's incredibly smart too. Reading by age 3? check. And he reads FAST too, sentences will pop up on the TV during commercials for about .000005 seconds and he's got them read. He can quote entire episodes of Invader Zim ver batum. I frequently enjoy quoting Zim with him. He also has excellent taste in music. (and by that I mean he like my music...my Mom is trying to fix that but it's futile) He's giggly and wonderful and I wish I had played tag with him more this break, but that's okay because we completely terrorized Whole Foods together when Mom took us both grocery shopping with her. I love him so much :)

Anyway, I love my family :) They're so amazing and I can't believe how blessed I am that I'm able to have them. Sometimes I wish BYU was just down the road so I could stay in TN and just hang out with them all the time. Because they're fun, and they make me laugh, and they inspire me to be better. DUDE. I lucked out.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://sugarrebelemily.blogspot.com/2011/01/well-its-new-year-so-im-gonna-start.html' title='Well! YAY! I've never been able to give before because my iron was always too low.
HOWEVER! David and I, a couple of hours beforehand, ate: steak, mashed potatos with the skins on, green beans, and LOTS of peas. I guess I know what to eat now because I passed the iron test:D

So i'm sitting there in line waiting to give, and I'm psyching myself out so I don't get scared and puke or something. The lady calls me up and I take a seat. She leans me back and streches out my arm. Finding the vein she wants to poke the life out of with a GINORMOUS needle(I swear that thing was the size of Canada), she marks it and then starts scrubbing my arm with iodine.

By this time I had started listening to my iPod to distract myself. I felt a pinch and a slight burn from the iodine and started pumping away. David and his roomate Andy were having a competition to see how fast they could fill the bag, and though I didn't say I was participating I pumped the squeezy toy thing at least every five seconds just to see how fast I could go. 4 minutes, 28 seconds later the lady told me to stop pumping-I was done. (I beat David..he got like 5 minutes and something seconds)

She disconnected my blood bag...and that's when I started to feel woozy. I told her, and she put an ice pack on my chest and told me to wiggle my toes and fingers and cough (apparently it helps with circulation) It started to get worse, and she asked me what my major was. I told her english, and that's the last thing I remember.

The next thing I knew I was being shaken awake with two people standing over me like "Hey! wake up! You're donating blood and you passed out" Everything was really fuzzy, like it felt like cotton had been shoved in my ears. Apparently I had been out for like a minute...which I guess is a long time? A water bottle was shoved in my hand and I started to sip, it made me feel better. Then once they made sure I wasn't going to puke all over the place I got some pretzles. The salt tasted REALLY good. My chest really hurt though, and the lady said it was because she had been rubbing it alot (again..circulation) trying to get me to wake up. She also said she'd been slapping me, but I have absolutle no recollection of that.

Chelsea and David said I was so pale I looked green....great:D Once i felt better they said I could go hang out at the snack station. I had some more juice and pretzles, but then after sitting up for a while I felt really light headed and sick again, so I laid down on the floor with my feet on a chair. Some guy came over and gave me more ice packs. When I asked how I looked, every body around me just laughed...so I'm assuming not so good:D

After a little while I felt better, but I was SUPER tired and FREEZING, so I went home and didn't do any homework. David made me dinner while I curled up on the couch in my pajamas with my quilt and watched Robin Hood. (The one with Kevin Costner...but Alan Rickamn as the Sherrif of Nottingham TOTALLY stole the show).

So yeah! That was my first blood donating experience. Good Stuff!!

Climbing to the Y!

So for Family Home Evening we hiked to the Y!
I died because I couldn't catch my breath in the thin Utah mountain air and therefore had to go alot slower than everyone else, but I did it!! The spirit was so strong and everything I needed was covered:D It was great, I'm so thankful for the priesthood!

I'm tired. I don't want to write this essay...It's SO long...not only is it a pain to write but its a pain to edit...and my brain is just mush. I found out I'm barely getting a C in American Heritage. BUMMER. Gotta see what I can do about that. I wonder if they could surgically alter my brain so I wouldn't have to sleep? Maybe that way I could get everything done:D

STAY POSITIVE!

I love my friends, my apartment, my teachers when they give me what I want(my english teacher is REALLY warming up to me putting as in my thesis-he had me read it aloud in class and said it was excellent, YAY), I love BYU. It's killing me, but at least I'll be smart when I die right?

Love to everyone! No explanation required. Man I dig that kid!

Hello everyone!

So..a recap of the past few days might be good:

I got a 81 on a paper in my english class I SLAVED over. I went to the writing lab and the girl who reviewed it was an expert on the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (which was what I was writing about), and apart from a few word changes she thought it was amazing. I also had Cassie Peach (an english major) review it and she said apart from a few mechanical errors (which I changed) she thought it was excellent, and I also had my REALLY smart group members review and they went on and on about how good it was.

And I got an 81. I was the lowest score in our ENTIRE group. Everybody who read my paper

couldn't beleive it. Niether could I.

So then I had a TOTAL BREAKDOWN. I think David was a little freaked at my histerical crying, poor kid. He handled it very well.

I made up for it by getting a big thing of ice cream, which the nice kid at the counter gave me extra reeses in because I was having a bad day. Then I only went to the library for 2 hours (A VERY short time in comaparison to the usual amount), and came home and vented to my roomates. They then decided to have a girls night and we ate junk food and watched a chick flick and they comiserated with me and wrote me nice notes on my wipe board behind my desk:D I felt better.

The next day Celina Ferrell came! YAY! We had a blastiblast and watched National Treasure (I won't lie I TOTALLY fell asleep) and then we sat around and talked about life. It was great. I never knew how much I missed them all until they came to visit. I dig that family:D

I've pretty much learned by now that I'm going to be writing at least an essay a week. This week's was for American Heritage. It was about abortion and how it's bad(duh) and the assumptions it makes about human society. I threw it together. I hope it works.

However! Next week I'm going to be writing 3 essays!

One for BoM

One Great Works essay for English
One 12-15 p

age research essay for English.
On top of that I have my American Heritage and BoM midterms next week too. JOY.

Iye luvuh coleje, as longuh as eet dosent maek miye braienes leek out off miye eyeres furst.

THEN in a startling turn of events, on Wednesday my english professor suddenly in the middle of class was like "was it someone in this class who wanted to use "as" in their thesis?"

My hand shot up and my voice rang out loud and clear "YES. IT WAS ME!"

He was all "I've been thinking alot about what you said, and "as" and "because" are both suboordinating conjuctions. It really doesn't make a difference, and I can understand how in some cases it would flow better than "because". Plus you felt "because" was a little juvenile?"

I nodded with a nice smile on my face.

Him: "I can see that. I just wanted to assure you that I had been thinking about it"

Me: "So can I use as in my paper?"

...a brief hesitation on his part, and then a laugh....

"Yes you can use it, just remind me that I said you could if I fail your paper!"

...Everyone proceeded to laugh as if this was an extremely funny joke, and of course i played along..but I have no doubt that he was 100% serious.

At the end of class as he was leaving I said goodbye and I hoped he had a nice weekend (all with a smile).

He said he hoped to see as in my paper.

I assured him that he would.

...Battle won? Or just postponed?....I'm feeling postponed.

I got a calling this week! I'm first counseler in the Relief Society. Abury Dyer is President, Chelsea Lind (who lives below me) is second counseler, and Susan something is secretary. It is CRAZY right now figuring out who is in our ward and getting their numbers and getting straight who is moving out because they are getting married ( I swear, every girl here is either pregnant or engaged. I counted 21 pregnant women this week) or who switched buildings etc, etc. But I LOVE IT! There's some condescention (sp?) toward Chelsea and I because we're both freshman..we actually had one girl ask us why we were put in the presidency so young (only that sounds nicer than she said it). I just responded that we were still excited about Relief Society and then asked her if there was anything she needed help with. My calling is basically alot of customer service "How can I help you?" :D But that's okay I love it!

Kristin(one of my roomates) and I slept over at Chelsea and Allie's (the girls who live below us but also pretty much live at our apartment:D) apartment last night and it was SO much fun! We talked about weddings and dresses and flowers and who we wanted to marry and blahdiblah girlygirl stuff. Then when we woke up we made blueberry and banana pancakes which were scrumptious...thank you Kristin!

My printer and flash drive came today, YAY:D Thank you family! David also treated me to the Pizza factory, which was DELICIOUS!!! I also bought this nifty new silicon swim cap (I forgot mine at home) that has pretty blue and purple streaks on a white background at the swim store.

Then everybody went to the Ward activity which was really fun. We ate hotdogs and played frisbee...which I suck at, so I left a little early:D but it was still fun!

I signed up for my fall classes! English(I signed up for both, but I'm not sure which one I'm taking yet because I'm trying to use Columbia State to get out of my 200 class), Italian(as part of the English program you have to take a second language, I decided to try something new), Biology, Second part of Book of Mormon, and an online swimming class. (don't ask me how swimming is an online class...but it fits into wellness so I'm taking it:D)

I also tried to sign up for housing. At 3:59pm on wednesday I looked to see how many spots were available in wyview...there were 3 womens. So I got onto the housing website and i sat with my mouse poised over the wyview tab so i could select my room. At 4:00 i clicked Wyview, but they were already gone! which meant someone had been doing the exact same thing, except they had a faster connection than i did. CRAZY! I'll try again this Monday!

So thats basically how my life has been. I HAVE been doing lots of homework and stuff, don't worry, I just didn't write about it because I didn't feel like it. So THERE:D

Happy 4th of JULY!

A Little Dissapointed

So today in my Honors Writing class my teacher was going over what he wanted in his thesis.
He wants: The opposite claim, because (your two pronged claim here)

HOWEVER! We are not supposed to state the opposition anywhere in our papers as this is not a research paper...so why do we need to state it in our thesis, the BASIS for our entire essay?
But WHATEVER, FINE, I let it go and stuck the opposite claim in there.

Then he asked us to read our thesis aloud. He FREAKED on me because i did not use the word "because", i used "as".

His words "they're the same bladibladibladiblah(big grammar word he was sure I wouldn't understand and he was right) so i want you to use because"

me:"but I think as sounds better"

him: why?
me: because sounds very elementary to me. If you ask a small child why, they say because. As just sounds better to me.

him:they're the samething

me:yes, i know, as just sounds better to me

Some suck up in the back of the class: As sounds just as elementary as because (I wanted to ask him to shut up, but i didn't)

him:well use because...just play the game and you can figure stuff out later.

Did I mention he had us read an essay that chastised "playing the game" at BYU and write a response to it the previous night for homework?

My thesis before he messed with it: Though the atom bomb bordered on sadistic in its power, its use was necessary to save both American and Japanese lives.

My thesis after he had me change it to HIS liking: Although it is claimed the capitualtion of Japan was inevitable, the atom bomb's use was necessary because it saved both Japanese and American lives.

I like the first one better. It's MY paper and my thesis sounded just FINE.
But hey...they mean the same thing don't they?

He then proceeded to tell us that he wasnt nit picky about papers...and then spent 50 minutes telling us EXACTLY was not to do, using complex grammar to make us feel stupid. It just made me mad.

I was hoping that by leaving Columbia State Community College I would find teachers that would realize that I had a good thing going and let me go, but NO, I have to figure out what THEY want and give it to them. Just the same as always.
Same ideas, it's just one has "University" at the end.

First Day Of School!

It was LONG.
I got up, ate breakfast on the 35 minute hike to campus (which included the stairs of death...I swear like FOUR flights), went to American Heritage. That was ok, Pope showed monty python in a way which related to political legitimacy, which was cool.
Then I went to Honors Writing. Which was not like American Heritage. I have a 3-4 page argumentative essay due on friday, and a page to page and a half response to a 10+ page reading assignment every class.
I ate lunch and took a picture of David with a pretzel up his nose...but for some reason my bluetooth won't work right now so i can't pt it on here.
For my essay due on friday we can only use "scholarly" sources...so basically only stuff with "journal" in the title. We had to find two sources, and it took me THREE HOURS in the library to find somewhat ok sources that would work for my paper. (Bombing of Hiroshima/Nagasaki. My position is that it was a good thing)
Then I walked back to Wyview and went to FHE, came back and did more homework.
I'm pooped. And frustrated. And feeling a little inadequate. And my butt hurts.
*sigh* I need to stop whining, sorry. I think I'm just REALLY tired. I'm going to bed now. Wait just kidding I have to read the ist 5 chapters of Nephi.

Woo! First Blog Post Ever!

Well sweetness, this is my very first blog post! I guess no one will read it yet because the only person who is following my blog is me...oh well I'll fix that later.
I guess the big thing right now is that I'm leaving for BYU next wednesday. I'm SOOOO stoked, I can't wait, but at the same time I'm a little nervous. No I take that back...I'm not nervous so much as reluctant. Things are going to change drastically and I'm not sure I'm comfy with that yet. Like from now on whenever I come back home it will always be for a visit.
I won't get to see Andrew (my little bro- he's currently 4 :D) grow up- he's going to grow like a weed in between visits and I'm going miss it.
Ben (my other younger brother, he's going to be 14 in mid-August) is going through what I deem the most hellish period in life and I'm not going to be RIGHT there to help him out if he needs it.

My parents are going to get older, and everytime I see them it will be like "Dude you're older, what's up with that?!?" My Dad won't be RIGHT there to fix everything...like the shower drain, the computer, my laptop, the Wagonator(my flipawesome '95 Ford Escort Station Wagon), and pretty much EVERYTHING else. My mom isn't going to be RIGHT there to give me awesome advice or a kick in the butt...depending on what I need :D

I guess that I'm being a little dramatic and it really won't be that bad...but still it's a big change.

So cool!
